The film "Paula X" is based on the novel by American writer Melville in 1852 (or rather "inspired by"), telling the story of Pierre, a wealthy young man, living in a country villa with his widowed mother. He is planning to marry his girlfriend Lucy when a woman named Isabelle appears, claiming to be his half-sister. He is forced to move to Paris with Isabelle and begins a forbidden love affair.
